Most authors who lose access to their platforms did not do anything “wrong.” They clicked a link that looked legitimate\, reused a password one too many times\, or trusted a tool they had used for years. What starts as a small mistake can quickly turn into losing control of your website\, email list\, or social media accounts. \nThis workshop breaks down what is really happening behind the scenes in plain language. We will talk about how author accounts actually get compromised\, what warning signs people usually miss\, and what steps you can take to protect yourself without feeling overwhelmed or intimidated. \nYou will learn simple\, realistic ways to secure your author platform\, even if the idea of “tech stuff” makes your eyes glaze over. No jargon. No scare tactics. Just clear explanations and practical steps you can actually follow. \nIn this workshop\, you will learn: \n\n\nWhat “your author platform” includes and why it matters \n\n\nThe most common ways authors get hacked or locked out \n\n\nHow to spot red flags before things spiral \n\n\nEasy security steps that make a big difference \n\n\nWhat to do if something goes wrong and you are not sure where to start \n\n\nThis session is about helping you protect the work you have already poured your time\, heart\, and money into\, without adding more stress to your plate. \nIf you have ever thought\, “I hope this never happens to me\,” this workshop will help make sure it does not. \nAbout the Instructor\nNicole R. Locker is an author\, platform strategist\, and the founder of Fiction Refinery Studio\, where she helps writers build and protect sustainable online platforms. She has been self-publishing and managing author platforms since 2013\, with hands-on experience across websites\, email lists\, and social media. \nA member of Contemporary Romance Writers since 2017 and a board member since 2019\, Nicole supports the writing community through leadership\, education\, and technical infrastructure.
