|About the Workshop
||Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett, Stephen King and Peter Straub, Jane Austen and Seth Grahame-Smith — although writing is often a solitary exercise, bringing the strengths of two writers together can be extremely rewarding.
In this workshop, we will cover the basics of collaborating, from initial conception through drafting and editing. Learning to use your cowriter as a source of ideas, as well as learning to settle differences of opinion regarding story direction will be key to your successful novel. Finally, while this workshop will primarily be geared towards structuring and planning the co-writing process, there will be some tips along the way for pantsing-style writers for those who need a more spontaneous approach but want to avoid writing your partner into a corner.
About the Instructors:
Midnight Voss has been writing stories since she was eight years old. More recently, she has worked for several years as a successful ghostwriter and taught and worked with writers on academic and personal projects for over a decade as an instructor and a consultant. Together, she and Ivy Quinn co-authored a dragon-shifter urban fantasy, Frozen Ashes and Smoldering Shards, which appeared in the USA Today Bestselling Sirens and Scales boxset. She prefers to live in fantasy and dystopian worlds rather than contemporary and has taught world-building classes for Maryland Romance Writers. Currently, she is collaborating with Ivy on a revised and expanded edition of Frozen Ashes and starting Lavender Dusk, an f/f vampire series, and an m/m and f/f “Southern Pack” shifter series through Sapphic Alliance Fiction.
Ivy Quinn has written the novel Frozen Ashes and Smoldering Shards with her co-writer, Midnight Voss. The book was part of the USA Today bestselling Sirens and Scales boxset in 2018 and is currently being revamped and expanded into a longer work. She also co-wrote the novella, The Golden Stag, the first in her Jager Detective Agency paranormal noir books with Megan Hussey. That novella was published in the limited edition and also USA Today Bestselling Once Upon a Rebel Fairy Tale anthology set last summer. She worked as a ghostwriter for four years on over sixty novellas and a dozen novels, some Amazon bestsellers. She’s also taught workshops, including one on novella writing and one on adapting fanfiction ethically into original works, for a variety of RWA chapters, including the Maryland Romance Writers, the Central Pennsylvania Romance Writers, the Young Adult Romance Writers, and the Yosemite Chapter of the RWA. Currently, she (usually) balances her graduate schoolwork in psychology with her writing schedule, which includes the Fanged Fairy Tales series, the Vegas Shifters series, and more of the Jager Detective Agency novellas currently in development for Sapphic Alliance Fiction.
