About the Workshop

Course Description:

In the Yellow Highlighter Workshops that I teach, I spend a lot of time smoothing the rough edges off the prose my students post. Most of these changes aren’t unique…but are the same sorts of changes over and over again. Hence, this brief, four week class which will cover some of the most common problems that lead to writing that lacks the professional, smooth flow, publishers and readers appreciate.

In this class we will cover

Problems with pronouns

Why words with ing often cause problems—and how to avoid the problems they cause

Common problems with adverbs

Common problems with prepositions and how to avoid them

Rhetorical questions and how to avoid them making your characters look dumb

Common problems associated with just, the, that, could, oh, felt, and thought
